Grading System - by Sensei Palmer

Junior belt system

Below is a list of the coloured belts that are used within the martial art community. This is used for Junior members only, and senior members wear white belt until they obtain "Sho-Dan" (1st Degree Black belt).

Parents are welcome to purchase coloured belts when their child reaches their graded level, though most use the senior format and purchase the coloured belt as a keepsake. The wearing of "Hakama" is earned and not given likely, so not all women may be given permission to wear it.

Please note:

Although seniors progess up the ranks a grade at a time, Juniors have to earn "stripes" before they move on to their next belt.

If we say that we have a junior member who has graded to 5th Kyu (Yellow belt), before he/she grades to 4th Kyu (Orange belt) they can basically earn between one and three stripes, giving them the rank of 5th Kyu and how ever many stripes they have earned.
